About 30,000 supporters are descending on the Italian capital for the clash with FC Barcelona on Wednesday night. Italian police said a man was stabbed on Tuesday night on the banks of the Tiber River close to Vatican City. He was taken to Spirito Santo Hospital.
Queues of red-shirted fans have been forming at Manchester Airport for the 33 flights departing for Rome. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said the force had received reports of a stabbing, but had no further details.
A Foreign Office spokesman said reports of the stabbing had not yet been confirmed by police in Rome. About 30,000 Manchester United fans are descending on the city for the final.
