Scarlett's organs sent to the UK

The mother of a Devon teenager murdered in Goa in February last year says that Indian authorities have released the last of her daughter's organs.

Scarlett Keeling, 15, from Bideford, was raped and murdered on Anjuna beach.

Her mother, Fiona MacKeown, said her daughter's uterus and parts of her liver and kidney have been sent to a coroner in the UK.

She is hoping the organs will be tested to reveal more clues about what happened to Scarlett.

The teenager was on a six-month holiday in India with her family when she was left in the Goan resort in the care of a 25-year-old tour guide while the rest of her family went travelling.

Tests expected

When her body was discovered, Goan police said her death was an accidental drowning.

It was only after a sustained campaign by Ms MacKeown that a second post-mortem examination revealed Scarlett had been attacked.

Two men were arrested last year, but no-one has been charged.

Ms MacKeown said: "There is half a uterus and a piece of liver and kidney as far as I know - the UK coroner is very keen to do tests on the uterus and the kidney.

"I expect the uterus will reveal Scarlett's sexual activities before she died and the kidney should reveal details of drinks and drugs that were consumed before she died, although tests on hair have already been done to expose this."
