Oil refinery workers in North Lincolnshire have voted to return to work after an unofficial strike over the use of foreign labour.

Contractors at the ConocoPhillips and Lindsey oil refineries walked out on Wednesday in support of strikers at the South Hook natural gas site in Wales.

The action at South Hook was called off on Wednesday after a deal was reached.

Hundreds of workers met at the North Lincolnshire sites on Thursday and voted to return to work on Friday.

About 800 protesters had blocked roads around the Lindsey site in an early morning protest on Wednesday.

The action was in support of strikers at South Hook who had complained that an agreement by contracting firm Hertel to offer jobs to local workers at a site in Milford Haven had been broken when Polish workers were hired.

Hertel UK, the contractor for the South Hook site, said it had been unable to source skilled people for the start of the project.

Contract workers from across the UK took part in a similar action in January and February over a construction contract at Lindsey Oil Refinery being given to an Italian firm.
