Commuters warned over Tube strike Strike suspends Underground line
(about 1 hour later)
Commuters in London have been warned to expect disruption to their journeys as staff on the Victoria Line stage a 24-hour strike. London Underground's Victoria Line has been suspended due to a 24-hour strike.

But Transport for London (TfL) said he had been "correctly disciplined" after failing to follow safety procedures. The RMT has also alleged Transport for London (TfL) is playing "fast and loose" with train safety.
Managers warned of rush-hour disruption for the line's 600,000 daily users. TfL said the RMT wants London Underground (LU) to reinstate a driver who put passenger safety at risk and then tried to cover up his mistakes.
The RMT has also alleged TfL is playing "fast and loose" with train safety.

RMT leader Bob Crow said: "The intransigence of Underground management has forced our members on the Victoria line to take another 24 hours of strike action. The union also claims its representatives have been victimised by management and claims trains need safety features to stop doors opening on the wrong side.
RMT leader Bob Crow said: "The intransigence of London Underground management has forced our members on the Victoria Line to take another 24 hours of strike action.

A TfL spokesman said: "This dispute is not about the safety of Victoria line trains. LU's chief operating officer, Howard Collins, said: "The RMT is seeking to force LU to reinstate a driver who put passenger safety at risk and then sought to cover up for his mistakes.
"It is about the actions of one RMT member who did not follow the correct safety procedures and then initially refused to admit to his error. He was correctly disciplined as a result. "The RMT is dressing this up as an issue about the safety of trains - it is not.
"This dismissal has been through the full appeal process and the RMT should accept the decision. "Victoria Line trains have been operating well and safely for 40 years, during which time the RMT have never raised this as an issue.
"This issue will not be resolved by further strike action, which will only lose RMT members a further day's pay and inconvenience thousands of Londoners." "The reason LU has an excellent safety record is because of our strict procedures. It is LU, not the RMT, that is defending the safety of passengers and staff."
