Barney, of Ringwood Road, Alderholt, and James, of The Brambles, Salisbury, had admitted conspiracy to burgle. Barney, of Alderholt, must serve at least 30 years in prison and James, of Salisbury, at least 28 years.
Mr Baker was stabbed in the head and his neck and back were broken in the attack at his home in Landford. Mr Baker was stabbed in the head and his neck and back were broken at his home in Landford on 5 September 2008.
James, of The Brambles, and Barney, of Ringwood Road, had both denied murder.
In April two other men, Daniel Coker, 23, of The Brambles, Salisbury, and 19-year-old Trevor Gray, of Blackfriars, Salisbury, both admitted manslaughter and conspiracy to burgle.
They are due to be sentenced at a later date.
