Bike race crash victim is buried | |

The funeral of the motorcycle racer Mark Young, who was killed in an accident at the North West 200 on Saturday, has taken place. | |
The 23-year-old from Millburn Park, Cookstown, was buried after a service at Molesworth Presbyterian Church. | |
The Reverend Tom Greer, paying tribute to Mr Young, described him as a "rising star" in the world of motorcycling". | |
"He was a courageous and determined racer, and a very fine young man who won everyone's hearts." | |
Rev Greer said racing was "the great passion" of Mr Young's life. | |
"Not only had he seen friends and colleagues lose their lives over recent seasons, but back in 2007 he himself had sustained serious leg injuries while racing," he continued. | |
"Those of us outside of the sport often wonder why after such suffering a motorcyclist doesn't just leave racing behind, but Mark, like many others, emerged from his injuries more enthusiastic than ever to get back on a bike." | |
Rev Greer also paid tribute to the motorcycling world and people in Cookstown "who have offered words of comfort and practical help in this time of great personal tragedy". | |
Another competitor, John Anderton from Antrim, is still in hospital after suffering serious injuries during a practice session for this year North West 200. |
