Two people were killed when the van they were travelling in was hit by a lorry on a motorway in West Yorkshire. | |
The lorry was travelling east on the M62 when it crashed through the central barrier, hitting the van and a mobile crane on the opposite carriageway. | |
Police said the lorry driver was badly injured and several other people suffered minor injuries. | |
A section of the M62 between Leeds and Bradford was closed in both directions causing major disruption to traffic. | |
The Highways Agency said the motorway between junction 27 for Gildersome and junction 28 for Tingley was likely to be closed until at least 1400 BST. | |
Fire and ambulance crews were called to the scene and traffic was being diverted on to the M1 north and M621 westbound. | |
The disruption to traffic was increased by another incident involving a man falling from a bridge on to the M62 between junction 30 for Rothwell and junction 31 for Castleford. |
