Multiple bomb threats have been called in around the Yale University campus in Connecticut, college officials said on Friday, with students evacuated from several buildings by police. According to an alert sent out by the school and shared online by recipients, police are responding to calls of multiple bombs in campus buildings, many of which are being evacuated and blocked-off by police. A series of law enforcement agencies responded to calls of bombs allegedly planted in campus buildings on Friday afternoon. Buildings including University Theater, Jonathan Edwards College, the Yale Art Gallery and Vanderbilt Hall were evacuated and blocked-off by officers up until the early evening.
A Yale Police Department officer told Yale Daily News that multiple law enforcement agencies have responded to the alert, including the Department of Homeland Security.
Students are being evacuated to a rally point on campus as several buildings, including University Theater, Jonathan Edwards College, the Yale Art Gallery and Vanderbilt Hall, are cleared by officials. Footage circulating online showed a swarm of emergency vehicles on campus at the elite Ivy League school. Apart from local police, the Department of Homeland Security and FBI were involved in the operation, according to a Yale Police Department spokesman.
DETAILS TO FOLLOW Just before 7pm local time, however, police gave the all clear, allowing the school to “return to normal operations.” They found the “threat was not credible” around five hours after the initial call, according to the Yale Daily News. The city’s downtown area was declared safe around the same time.
