An alliance of 22 parties in Nepal says it has enough support to form a coalition government, potentially ending the country's political turmoil.

The Nepali Congress, the Communist Party of Nepal and smaller groups filed an application to form a government.

The alliance says it will back veteran communist leader Madhav Kumar Nepal as its candidate for prime minister.

Maoist Prime Minister, Prachanda, quit in May following a dispute over the sacking of the head of the army.
