Pregnant woman dies in kerb crash

A pregnant woman has died after a car mounted a pavement in a street in a Cumbrian town.

Anne Marie McCreadie, of Sark Close, Lowry Hill, Carlisle, was walking with her husband and a friend in Wilson Row, Penrith, on Friday evening.

The 29-year-old sustained serious pelvic injuries and died in hospital. Her unborn child also died.

Cumbria Police said a BMW mounted the pavement and collided with her. The car's driver was arrested.

Police said the man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
