A security alert in Crossmaglen in south Armagh has ended. Almost 1,000 school children had to stay at home following a security alert in Crossmaglen, south Armagh.
The Square in the village was closed after police found a number of suspicious packages on Monday night. St Patrick's Primary and St Joseph's High School were closed on Tuesday after two suspicious objects were found in the village's square on Monday.
Army bomb disposal experts were called in to examine the packages which police now believe contained the proceeds of burglaries. The alert is over and police believe the packages contained the proceeds of burglaries. Two men from Dundalk have been arrested.
Two men from Dundalk were arrested on Tuesday. St Patrick's Primary School has been closed for the day as a result of the security operation. Pupils at St Joseph's due to take exams managed to make it in and sit them.
