Version 0 of 1.

Rescuers have called off the search for an angler who disappeared while fishing in a harbour.

Coastguards said there was no real chance the man could have survived this long if he was swept out to sea on Wednesday night.

The search was launched when the man's discarded mobile phone, clothes, bag and shoes were found on rocks at Dunbar Harbour.

A fishing rod was seen floating in the water.

Further investigations established that the owner of the gear, a 60-year-old from Edinburgh, had not returned home as expected at 1800 BST.

Two lifeboats were launched and a helicopter was scrambled from RAF Boulmer in Northumberland at about 1830 BST.

Efforts to find the angler were halted at about 2200 BST as light faded but resumed on Thursday morning.

Three RNLI lifeboats from Dunbar and North Berwick and coastguard rescue teams from both towns were involved in the search.

It was called off at about 1130 BST.
