Boy, 11, quizzed over sex assault

An 11-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a fellow pupil.

The girl, who is aged under 13, was allegedly attacked while walking home from her school in South Tyneside on Monday evening.

Northumbria Police said the arrested youth had been questioned and released on bail pending further inquiries.

No further information is being released about the incident, a spokeswoman for the force said.
