Version 0 of 1.

A council has suspended its corporate director of education and social care as part of an investigation into "management and operational matters".

Inverclyde Council said Ian Fraser was suspended by its chief executive last Friday afternoon.

A statement from the council said appropriate interim management arrangements had been put in place.

The council said it would not be making any further comment on the reasons for Mr Fraser's suspension.

However, the suspension is not understood to be a direct result of the controversial decision to deny a girl a place at Gourock High School after drawing her name from a ballot.

The girl's appeal against the decision was upheld by the council on Monday, as were the appeals of three other pupils who were denied placing requests at the school.

The council has apologised to the families of the four pupils involved for any distress that had been caused.
