Police arrested Martin Alex Forshaw, 26, an officer with Cheshire Police, at the couple's home in Bury. Martin Alex Forshaw, 26, of Meadow Way, Tottington, was remanded in custody by Bolton magistrates.
He was charged with murder on Saturday 9 May and will appear before Bolton Magistrates' Court later. Mr Forshaw, known as Alex, was an officer with Cheshire Police but has now resigned.

Ch Supt John O'Hare, from GMP's Rochdale divisional headquarters, paid tribute to Ms Howarth. She was due to marry Mr Forshaw in St Lucia on Tuesday.
"Claire was a really positive officer. She was highly-regarded by all her colleagues and myself." He is due before Manchester Crown Court on 18 May.
Mr Forshaw is believed to part of Cheshire Police's armed response unit, based in Winsford.
