Further details have emerged about the identity of a man's body found off a rural road.

The body was found on Friday near an unclassified road at Horeb, near Five Roads, Carmarthenshire.

It is thought the man was of Vietnamese or Chinese origin and in his 20s or 30s.

A post mortem examination proved inconclusive and further tests are being carried out. Dyfed Powys Police are treating the death as unexplained.

It is thought the man had been dead for about 24 hours and police are appealing for information from anyone who used the road on Thursday.

Det Ch Insp Richard Evans who is heading the inquiry, said they had asked for further tests, including toxicology, to be carried out on the man.

"The man is believed to be in his 20s or 30s and of Far Eastern origin, maybe Vietnamese or Chinese," he said.

"Extensive investigations are currently under way to trace his identity and his relatives.

"He is described as 5ft 5in tall, weighing 10 stone and with short dark hair. He was wearing light blue jeans and and off-white polo shirt and a blue-beaded necklace."

The road is open from Five Roads to Horeb but closed just beyond, in order for further examination of the scene to be carried out.

Diversions have been put in place.

House-to-house inquiries are under way in the area.

Det Ch Insp Evans said efforts were being made to identify the man and to trace relatives.

The body was removed from the scene and a forensic examination of the area was carried out.

"Anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the Five Roads area during the last week, or has any information regarding a missing friend or relative is asked to contact the incident room," said Det Ch Insp Evans.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the incident room at Llanelli on 0845 330 2000.
