Police said a post-mortem examination carried out on Monday was inconclusive. Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Louisa Rolfe said the force was not asking women to change their behaviour when going out at night.
Another man in his 40s who was held on suspicion of murder on Sunday was later released under further investigation. It comes after information sheets advising women on how to stay safe at night were handed out by a community group.
"I know the local authority have released some information for women about staying safe," she said.
"It's really important to us that we don't ask women to change their behaviour.
"Violence against women and girls is a priority for police across the UK but we're really conscious that women should be free to go about their lives without fear of abuse."
She asked anyone with information about Ms Nessa's death to come forward.

Speaking about the CCTV image appeal, Det Ch Insp Neil John said: "We would ask anyone - especially those in Kidbrooke and the wider area of Lewisham and Greenwich - to take a careful look at these images to check whether you know who this man is or have seen him over recent days.
"Any information as to his identity or whereabouts could be vital for our investigation so we are asking you to share this image far and wide to ensure as many people as possible see it."
