Royal Marine charged with murder Tributes to navy 'gentle giant'

A Royal Marine has been charged with the murder of a Navy technician after a fight at a Hampshire bar. Tributes have been paid to a Royal Navy technician who died following a fight in a Hampshire bar.
Kyle Bartlett, a marine engineering technician, 21, was injured in the Walkabout bar in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, on Tuesday night. Kyle Bartlett, 21, a marine engineering technician died in hospital on Wednesday after an altercation in the Walkabout bar in Portsmouth.
He died the next day in hospital. Post-mortem tests showed he had died as a result of head injuries. Engineering Technician Bartlett was described as a "gentle giant" and as a "lovely person", by his father.
Ben Scott, 21, of Revenge Close, Southsea, will appear at Portsmouth Magistrates Court later. Royal Marine Ben Scott, from Southsea, is to appear later before Portsmouth magistrates charged with murder.
He has been remanded in custody. The 21-year-old, of Revenge Close, is in custody.
Engineering Technician Bartlett's father, Alan, said: "Kyle comes from a strong naval family background.
"He was clearly on the stairway to success in his chosen career and was up for promotion in the next few weeks.
'Utterly professional'
"I remember him as a lovely person who enjoyed his life. A fun lad, with a good sense of humour."
Cdr Craig Wood, of the Royal Navy, described Engineering Technician Bartlett as: "Utterly professional, dedicated to the service and possessing a traditional sailor's sense of humour.
"He was a key member of the marine engineering department and very popular member of my ship's company. Without doubt he had a very bright future ahead of him in the service."
