Moscow summons American ambassador over ‘US meddling’ in Russian elections – reports Moscow summons American ambassador over ‘US meddling’ in Russian elections – reports
(32 minutes later)
Russia’s Foreign Ministry has summoned the US ambassador to Moscow, John Sullivan, with reports suggesting that it was over American “meddling” in the upcoming elections. The ministry is yet to comment on the meeting.
The US envoy spent around 20 minutes at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs following the summons and left it without answering any of the journalists’ questions. America’s diplomatic mission later told RIA news agency that the brief visit was supposedly aimed at discussing the US plans for “stable” relations with Russia under President Joe Biden.
A Russian diplomatic source told the media, however, that the ambassador had been summoned over US “meddling” in the upcoming general elections in Russia, scheduled for next week. The source did not provide any further details and the foreign ministry has not commented on the issue.
