Film festival boasts 23 premieres

The Edinburgh International Film Festival will host 23 world premieres in its programme.

The full listing also includes 16 international premieres and 135 features from 33 countries.

The 63rd EIFF, which will run from 17 to 28 June, will open with Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes' latest film Away We Go.

A Year of Homecoming section will showcase the work of Scottish film-making talent.

Three of the festival's four patrons, Sir Sean Connery, Tilda Swinton and Seamus McGarvey, will be attending.

Industry figures also appearing include Sam Mendes, Darren Aronofsky, Joe Dante and Bill Forsyth. Brenda Blethyn is the subject of this year's Bafta interview.

The Year of Homecoming section will focus on the work of film-makers Peter McDougall and John Mackenzie with screenings of The Elephant's Graveyard and A Sense of Freedom.

Artistic director Hannah McGill said: "I'm thrilled about this programme, and really looking forward to showing these films to our audience, as well as welcoming this wide array of exciting guests.

"We've been really privileged to see a tremendous range of very varied work from all over the world this year, and the programming team have done incredible work in selecting the best and most innovative films."

Digitally restored prints of Shallow Grave and The Red Shoes will form the backdrop for a special event on digital restoration.

The closing gala will be the international premiere of Adam, a romantic comedy by Max Mayer starring Hugh Dancy, Rose Byrne and Peter Gallagher.
