Version 0 of 1.

A man accused of aiding the outlawed Sri Lankan Tamil Tigers group will not face a retrial, says the Crown Prosecution Service.

Jegatheeswaran Muraleetharan, or Muralee, 46, of Newtown, Powys, denied receiving electronic items for use in terrorism at Kingston Crown Court.

A jury failed to reach a verdict at his trial last month.

His brother Jeyatheswaran Vythyatharan, 40, also from Newtown, was cleared of the same charge following a trial.

A fellow co-accused, Murugesu Jegatheeswaran, 34, of Mitcham, south London, was also cleared on 6 April of receiving electronic items for use in terrorism.

But Arunachalam Chrishanthakumar, 52, of south London, the founder of the British Tamil Association, was convicted of two terrorism charges on 17 April.

The jury was discharged after failing to reach a verdict on three other charges against Chrishanthakumar.

He was found guilty of supplying bomb-making equipment for the Tamil Tigers and receiving documents for the purpose of terrorism.
