Version 0 of 1.

Police are hunting for 24-year-old man who has absconded from an open prison.

Jamie Weaver failed to return to HMP Prescoed in Pontypool, Monmouthshire, on Sunday.

He was convicted in February for a number of driving offences and the breach of a previous suspended sentence for a non-dwelling burglary.

Gwent Police said the public should not approach Weaver, who is not a sex offender, and should call them on 101 if they see him or know where he is.

Weaver was sentenced to 18 months at Cardiff Crown Court for dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without insurance and the breach of a previous suspended sentence for the burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, disqualified driving and driving with no insurance.

Gwent Police said he may be a potential risk to the public due to the fact that he is no longer in the custody of the prison service.

The force said it has activated the operational plan with the aim of locating him and the prison is co-operating fully.
