Youth bailed in 'child sex' case

A 17-year-old youth has been released on police bail over allegations he had unlawful sex with a 12-year-old girl.

The girl from the Bath and North East Somerset area has since become one of the youngest mothers in England.

A court order has been granted preventing the identification of the mother, and the 17-year-old defendant, to protect her and her family.

Sexual intercourse with a child under 13 is classed as rape, as the child would not be capable of consenting.
