The Kennington Amateur Dramatic Society said the 60-year-old fridge would be perfect on the 1950s set of their production of The Darling Buds of May. The appliance was found in the Buckinghamshire home of Colin Barfield, 92. It had been his first fridge. Mr Barfield has since been given a new fridge to allow his old one to take up its theatrical role. 'Fair enough' "In all its 60 years, it's only packed up once," said Mr Barfield. "But it's done its job and fair enough." James Mansfield, director of the production, said he was looking forward to taking it on. It's done its job and fair enough Colin Barfield "The play is all about food - it's all about enormous meals," he said. "So we'll be able to use this fridge on stage. It's brilliant, we're just waiting to hear when we can go and collect it." Mr Barfield was presented with a brand new replacement fridge by manufacturing industry campaign group Time to Change. The campaign is run by electrical appliance manufacturers to try to encourage the replacement of 15.4m old appliances in the UK with more energy-efficient models. |
