Row leads police to dog's owners

A dog has been reunited with its owners after officers found the animal while investigating a domestic dispute.

Jack, a two-year-old black Labrador, from Horsham, West Sussex, went missing on 22 February.

A couple, believing him to be a stray, took him to their home in Farnham, Surrey, but when they split up he became the focus of a custody battle.

Surrey Police said Jack's original owners were revealed when officers looked up the dog's identity.

Once it was discovered he had been micro-chipped, officers and the RSPCA tracked down his owners and reunited them with their pet on Thursday.

Detectives said during the two months Jack was missing his name was first changed to Carlos and later Sam.

He was initially moved to Farnham and at one point he was taken to live with the male partner's relatives in Basingstoke, Hampshire.

Det Con James West said: "This is a true shaggy dog story with a happy ending.

"Jack went berserk when he saw them and we knew then that he had definitely met them before."
