A 22-year-old man must serve at least 15 years in prison after being given a life sentence for his second killing. Thomas Goldie was found guilty of murder after stabbing Thomas Stevenson, 45, to death on Lynedale Road in the Maryhill area of Glasgow last August. Goldie denied the charge and said he had been attacked by Mr Stevenson. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Goldie had killed before. He had been sentenced to five years detention in 2003 for culpable homicide. Temporary judge Sean Murphy QC said Goldie had a propensity to violence. He said: "You are only 22 and this is the second occasion in which you have been convicted of causing the death of another person. "You have a substantial propensity to use violence without thought for the consequences for other people." As he was led away to begin his sentence Goldie gave a thumbs up to friends and relatives in the public benches as they shouted: "Chin up, pal." CCTV Goldie was found guilty of brutally stabbing Mr Stevenson to death and attempting to defeat the ends of justice at the High Court in Glasgow on 1 April. The murder was captured on CCTV. The court heard that within minutes of the killing, Goldie had shaved off his hair and washed his bloodstained clothes. Defence QC Ronald Watson said: "Mr Goldie continues to deny he murdered this man, but expresses sorrow for him." Goldie was convicted in 2003 of the culpable homicide of 25-year-old father James McCallion. Mr McCallion was attacked by a group of youths as he left a christening in Dumbarton. |
