Jail for driver who killed friend

A 19-year-old Londonderry man has been sentenced to one year in a young offenders centre after he admitted causing death by dangerous driving.

Kevin Derges from Cashelmore Park, was driving a car which crashed at Coshquin Road in May 2007, killing his friend Conor Doherty, 17, who was a passenger.

Derges also admitted leaving the scene of the accident and failing to report it.

He was banned from driving for five years.

Mr Doherty's mother said she has forgiven Derges.
