A 27-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a stolen car. A Belfast man has been remanded in custody on a charge of attempted murder after a police officer was hit by a stolen car in Newry.
The incident happened at Toll House Park in Newry on Wednesday morning. Michael Ferguson, 27, of Cliftonville Avenue, was also charged with burglary, aggravated car theft, criminal damage and other driving offences.
The man is also accused of burglary, breach of bail, aggravated vehicle taking, vehicle theft and criminal damage. Malachy Goodman, 25, of Ballymurphy Parade, was accused of burglary, car theft and criminal damage.
A 25-year-old man has been charged with burglary, breach of bail vehicle theft and criminal damage. The two are due to appear in court later on Thursday. The pair will appear in court again via videolink on 13 May.
Newry Magistrates Court was told the Subaru Impreza car failed to stop after hitting a police car at Toll House Park in the city on Wednesday morning.
The two men were charged with more than 40 offences, including the thefts of several cars in the Newry area and in Newtownabbey.
The court heard Mr Ferguson was charged with attempted murder because a police constable had been badly injured and needed hospital treatment. He has since been discharged.
A detective constable told the court he could connect the two men to the charges.
