Dissidents 'using web to recruit'
http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/rss/-/1/hi/northern_ireland/8012327.stm Version 0 of 1. The police are investigating claims that dissident republicans are using social networking sites to recruit young people, the government has said. Northern Ireland Secretary Shaun Woodward said police would act if there was any evidence of a criminal nature. Mr Woodward was responding to a question from Conservative MP Tony Whittingdale during NI questions. He said the site where the content is alleged to have appeared had vowed to remove any such material. "The site has vowed to remove material they consider to be illegal, defamatory, fraudulent or which infringe or violate any individual's rights," he told MPs. "The police obviously will act if there is any evidence of a criminal nature going on here." "The government needed to ensure young people were aware that such groups were criminal organisations." |
