Church theft 'new low'- inspector
(1 day later) | |
Police are investigating the theft of £400 from a chapel in Londonderry at the weekend.
Three men and two women were caught on CCTV taking money from St Brigid's Church in Carnhill as a wedding was starting on Saturday afternoon.
PSNI Inspector Jon Burrows said the thieves had reached a new low stealing from the church safe.
"Criminals can't stoop any lower than going into a place of worship and stealing money," he said.
"This is money that comes from the pockets of the community so I'd appeal to them not to have any misplaced loyalty.
"If you know who these people are, please give us a name, you can do it in confidence through Crimestoppers or contact us at Strand Road."
Parish priest Joe Gormley said he was "very sad and disappointed that people would use a church to commit a crime". |
