A 45-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating the death of a woman whose skeletal remains were found in woodland in Sussex.

Sussex Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and was being questioned at Eastbourne custody centre on Saturday.

Officers confirmed the arrest was linked to the ongoing inquiry into the death of Victoria Couchman.

Her remains were found in woodland in St Leonards in October last year.

Children playing in Redgeland Wood, in the Queensway area of St Leonards, near Hastings, found the skull of the 19-year-old woman, while further human remains were later discovered around the scene.

Medical records were used to identify them as those of Ms Couchman, a single mother-of-one.

Detectives believe she went missing some time during May 2008 but she was not reported as a missing person.
