Five police officers have been treated in hospital after being covered in a powder believed to be class A drugs during a raid in North Yorkshire. | |
As officers entered the flat in Skinner Street, Whitby, on Saturday, a large amount of white powder was thrown. | |
The officers, four men and a woman, were taken taken to hospital suffering from vomiting, skin and lung irritation and light-headedness. | |
They were later released following treatment. | |

A 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody. | |
Acting Assistant Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police, Steve Read, paid tribute to the officers involved in the raid. | |
He said they had displayed "everyday courage in protecting the public". | |
"But due to the often unforeseeable nature of the tasks that police officers undertake, they were exposed to danger in an entirely unpredictable way. | |
"Thankfully the officers responded well to the treatment they received at Whitby Hospital." |
