(about 2 hours later)
A body in the River Ouse in York is not that of missing York university chef Claudia Lawrence, police have said. Police are trying to discover the identity of a woman whose body was found in a river after confirming she was not missing chef Claudia Lawrence.
The body was found at Bishopthorpe Bridge, close to where the A64 crosses the river, at 1040 BST on Friday, North Yorkshire Police said. Post-mortem tests are being carried out on the body which was found in the River Ouse at Bishopthorpe Bridge, near York, on Friday morning.
No further details about the body have been released. The area has been cordoned off. North Yorkshire Police said the body was not believed to be linked to any ongoing inquiries into missing people.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the body was not that of Ms Lawrence, who has been missing since 18 March. "The identity of the female body is unknown," a force spokeswoman said.
The area where the body was found is close to Archbishop of York John Sentamu's residence, Bishopthorpe Palace, and is popular with dog-walkers and joggers.
Police officers stood at the scene on Friday afternoon on the banks of the river and a boat could be seen on the water.
