The collision reportedly took place after several cars of the Millat Express train derailed and collided with the Sir Sayyed Express passenger train moving on a parallel track. Footage of the incident shared on social media shows crumpled carriages overturned and lying on their sides as people surround them, apparently searching for survivors. According to a spokesperson for Pakistan Railways, as cited by local media, an express train heading from Karachi to Sargodha went off the tracks and collided with another train. Local media cited officials, saying that 13 to 14 train cars were derailed, and eight of them were severely damaged.
Pakistan’s Neo News reported that at least 30 passengers were killed in the collision, and dozens more were injured. More people are feared to be trapped in the debris. Police said at least 25 people are still to be pulled from the wreckage as of Monday morning.
