Five hurt in jet adventure boat

Five people have been injured, one seriously, after their boat landed heavily after coming off a wave off the Pembrokeshire coast. Eleven people were in the vessel run by Thousand Island Expeditions when the incident happened off St Justinian near St Davids. A rescue helicopter took one person to Withybush Hospital, Haverfordwest, with serious back injuries. Four others were treated for minor injuries, including damaged ribs. They were taken to hospital by air ambulance and by land ambulance after the vessel docked. The two taken by air ambulance had sustained back injuries. The other two were thought to have bruised or broken ribs. A rescue helicopter took the most seriously injured person to hospital after winching the individual from the scene. The incident happened at around 1355. The sea was slight to moderate at the time. Milford Haven coastguard co-ordinated the rescue. St Davids coastguard rescue team were also mobilised and they assisted in getting the passengers off the vessel and communications shoreside. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) have been informed and Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) surveyors will look at the craft on Wednesday. Thousand Island Expeditions, which runs wildlife adventure boat trips in Pembrokeshire, said they were not in a position to comment. |
