Two killed in M6 motorway crash M6 death couple married 65 years

A man and a woman in their 80s have been killed in a crash on the M6 motorway in Cheshire. The family of a couple killed when their van was involved in a crash on the M6 said they were due to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary.
The pair, from Hawarden, Flintshire, were pronounced dead at the scene between junctions 20 and 21 at about 2112 BST on Tuesday. Emelyn Pritchard Coulson, 86, and his wife Dorothy, 83, from Hawarden, Flintshire, were in a crash with two other vehicles at Cheshire on Tuesday.
Cheshire Police said a 61-year-old woman from the Knutsford area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. The motorway was closed for six hours.
The motorway was closed for six hours before reopening at 0300 BST Wednesday. A woman, 61, from the Knutsford area was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. She was later been released on bail.
The crash involved three vehicles, a Mitsubishi Space driven by the 61-year-old woman, a silver Peugeot Partner van in which the two people died and a black BMW 525 driven by a 51-year-old man from Lanarkshire. Mr and Mrs Coulson's family paid tribute to them in a statement released by Cheshire Police.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was not seriously injured and is in police custody. "Emelyn, 86, and Dorothy, 83, were a loving couple who were about to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary," they said.
Emelyn and Dorothy were keen caravanners, spending a lot of time travelling around the country and visiting friends Mr and Mrs Coulson's family
"They were loving parents and grandparents, and will be sadly missed by their two sons, daughter and grandchildren.
"Living in Hawarden for most of their lives, they were well known and liked within their local community in Hawarden.
"Emelyn and Dorothy were keen caravanners, spending a lot of time travelling around the country and visiting friends. They will be truly missed by all who knew them."
The crash between junctions 20 and 21 near Warrington happened at 2112 BST on Tuesday and the motorway was closed until 0300 BST on Wednesday.
It involved three vehicles - a Mitsubishi Space driven by the 61-year-old woman, a silver Peugeot Partner van in which Mr and Mrs Coulson died and a black BMW 525 driven by a 51-year-old man from Lanarkshire.
The driver of the Mitsubishi was not seriously injured. She was arrested but was later released on police bail until July while investigations continue.
