Fourth arrest over student murder

Police investigating the murder of a 17-year-old student in Cardiff city centre in February have made a fourth arrest.

The 20-year-old from Roath in Cardiff is in custody being questioned on suspicion of the murder of Rhys Davies.

Rhys, from Tredegar, Blaenau Gwent died from head injuries on 14 February after he was assaulted near a Ladbrokes shop in St Mary Street the night before.

Three other people remain on police bail in connect the with the inquiry.

Rhys, who was on a building course at Coleg Gwent in Ebbw Vale, was on his way home after going shopping with a friend on 13 February when the assault took place.

Police said it is believed the pair became involved in an argument with some passers-by near the Ladbrokes betting shop at 1840 GMT in St Mary Street while on their way to catch a bus home.

Police say the argument resulted in Rhys being assaulted. He died in the University of Wales Hospital the next day.

Officers are still appealing for witnesses to the incident and want to trace a man on a bike.

It is believed he held shopping bags belonging to Rhys's friend after the incident and could have vital information.

The cyclist was wearing a black donkey-style jacket with an orange tabard.
