A 26-year-old man from County Armagh has been fined for his role in disturbances in the Holyland area of south Belfast last month. Damien McStravick, of Parknasilla Way in Aghagallon, admitted shouting and swearing at police officers in Jerusalem Street on St Patrick's Day. He was fined £350. Three other men who were also charged had their cases adjourned. A total of 10 people have been charged with being involved in the trouble. Charles McAuley, 23, of Carmorn Road in Toomebridge, 21-year-old Robert Austin of Malachy's Park in Camlough, and Patrick McQuade, 20, from Rugby Avenue in Belfast, also appeared in court on Tuesday. A solicitor for McStravick said he had been visiting friends in Belfast at the time. His solicitor said that he was unfamiliar with the Holyland area of Belfast and that, combined with the alcohol he had consumed, caused him to become confused and to behave out of character. |
