Mark Radnedge, 33, pleaded guilty to manslaughter, causing grievous bodily harm and burglary in September. | |
Nasir Sayeed, 46, and his daughter Nisha, were trapped after the shop, in Knowle West, was set alight in February 2008. Mr Sayeed later died in hospital. | |

Letter of remorse | |
The fire happened in the early hours of Friday 15 February 2008, as Nasir Sayeed, his family and two tenants were asleep in the flat above. | |
Mr Sayeed was fatally injured, his daughter Nudrat Nasir, 22, suffered severe smoke inhalation and spent more than a week in hospital. Three other people were also injured. | |
Radnedge, who claimed that he did not know people were asleep above the shop, wrote a letter of remorse to the family. | |

The letter was read to the court. It said: "There is not a moment that I do not feel your pain or try to understand your loss, because of my actions things will never be the same. | |
"No easy money is worth another life especially when the man is a decent man who always had time for others. | |
"Please try if you can not to let this destroy you. I am so sorry, I mean that from the bottom of my heart." | |
'Broken into again' | |
Speaking outside the court, Rashid Sayeed, 45, the brother of Nasir, said: "I am not happy about the six year sentence, we expected more. | |
"I have not received the letter but I do not believe one word of what I have heard today, I don't think he cares about anyone. | |
"Sometimes it is frightening for me, when I go to the shop in the mornings I am scared that we have been broken into again. | |
"It took me 10 months to get back to running the shop but we will carry on." | |

He was also sentenced to three years for grievous bodily harm, one year for each of the actual bodily harm counts, six months for common assault and 18 months for burglary. These sentences will run concurrently to the six-year term. |
