Fire crews tackle warehouse blaze Warehouses destroyed by huge fire
(1 day later)
Crews are tackling what has been described as a major fire at a group of buildings in east London. Several warehouses and office buildings in east London have been destroyed in a large fire.
London Fire Brigade said it had sent about 75 firefighters to deal with the blaze on Church Road in Leyton after a call was received at 2252 BST. At its height, about 75 firefighters tackled the blaze on Church Road in Leyton, London Fire Brigade said.
Buildings, including a distribution warehouse and offices, were described as being 80% ablaze. Firefighters were called at 2252 BST on Sunday and had brought the blaze under control about three hours later.
A fire service spokeswoman could not offer any details about the contents of the warehouse. Waltham Forest council said 25 people who were moved from their homes had been allowed to return. Firefighters are now damping down the scene.
Senior fire officer Mark McHenry said the residents had been moved as a "safety precaution".
He said: "We anticipate being here for most of the morning.
"Obviously that would have some impact on traffic. We are working with the police to minimise the impact to the local traffic."
A London Fire Brigade spokeswoman said it was too early to determine the cause of the fire.
There are no reports of any injuries. Church Road, which was closed throughout the night, has now reopened.
