Crash helicopter wreckage found Bodies found inside helicopter
(10 minutes later)
The helicopter which crashed into the North Sea on Wednesday, killing all 16 men on board, has been found, sources have confirmed to the BBC. Seven more bodies have been found inside the fuselage of the helicopter that crashed into the North Sea, killing all 16 men on board.
A salvage vessel, the Bibby Topaz, is on the surface, about 100m above the wreckage of the Bond Super Puma. The wreckage of the Super Puma was found on the sea bed by the Bibby Topaz salvage vessel.
Police have so far only confirmed the recovery of eight bodies. The discovery brings the total number of bodies recovered to 15. Specialist divers are continuing to search for the last missing body.
It was thought the remains of the other eight men who died in the crash could still be inside the fuselage of the helicopter. The helicopter crashed off the Aberdeenshire coast on Wednesday.
Specialist diving teams had been working at the scene since Saturday afternoon trying to locate the wreckage and the cockpit voice and data recorder. Grampian Police said they believed two of the recovered bodies were the pilot and co-pilot, Paul Burnham and Richard Menzies.
It is understood an announcement will be made about what they have found later on Sunday afternoon. A spokesman for the force confirmed: "As a result of the ongoing effort, seven of the remaining eight victims have been recovered by divers onto a vessel at the scene.
Grampian Police said on Saturday night that they had identified all eight of the bodies recovered so far. "Families of all the victims have been informed of the current situation.
"The search operation for the last remaining body continues."
It is understood the helicopter is lying about 100m under the surface.
The seven bodies found inside have been recovered, and are currently on the Bibby Topaz.
