Version 0 of 1.

A murderer serving a life sentence will have to wait months before judges decide if he can father a child by artificial insemination.

Kirk Dickson, 34, wants to have a baby with his wife Lorraine, 48, of Beverley, but will not be released from prison until 2009, when his wife is 51.

The couple took their case to the European Court of Human Rights after losing earlier appeals.

A spokeswoman said they would have to wait for the judgement.

The couple's legal team put their case before 17 judges sitting in the court's Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg on Wednesday morning.

They argued that a Home Office decision to deny them access to artificial insemination breaches their human rights.

The couple, who married in jail in 2001, lost their first appeal at the European court last April.
