Three men facing firearms charges Three remanded over robbery bid

Three men, aged 34, 35 and 29 are expected to appear in court on Saturday. Three men have been remanded in custody charged in connection with a foiled armed robbery in west Belfast.
They are charged with conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. The charges relate to an incident at the Twin Spires shops on the Falls Road on Thursday.
It is understood the charges relate to an incident in the Twin Spires complex on the Falls Road, Belfast on Thursday. Thomas Corrigan, 34, of no fixed abode, Patrick McAllister, 29, of Point Road, Magilligan and Francis McColgan, 35, of Falls Road, Belfast, were in court.
The Police Ombudsman has begun an investigation into the incident. They are charged with conspiracy to commit a robbery, having a firearm with intent and handling stolen goods.
Patrick McAllister was also charged with having a quantity of cannibas, whilst Francis McColgan was also accused of possessing cocaine.
A specialist police unit swooped on a stolen car parked outside a bank on the Falls Road on Thursday.
A detective from the organised crime squad told Belfast Magistrates Court that police foiled a pre-planned robbery.
A sawn-off shotgun and latex gloves were found at the scene.
The detective told the court that these, along with mobile phones and the stolen car, are undergoing forensic examination.
He said there would also be evidence from surveillance officers.
Two of the accused shouted insults at people in the public gallery as they were led away, with one of the defendants claiming he had been set up.
