Strathclyde Police confirmed that a 24-year-old man was involved in an incident with several youths on Main Street, Cambuslang, at 2155 GMT on Thursday.
Det Sgt Margaret-Anne May of Rutherglen CID said: "I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this altercation to come forward with any information relating to the identity of the individuals involved."
