Body parts inquiry conference due Dumped body parts from same man
(about 2 hours later)
Two police forces investigating the discovery of body parts are to hold a joint press conference. A human head found in Leicestershire field comes from the same body as an arm and a leg found dumped in a Hertfordshire, police have revealed.
Since a man's head was found on a field in Asfordby, Leicestershire, on Tuesday officers have been working with counterparts in Hertfordshire. The male's head was found on Tuesday at Asfordby, while the other parts were found in Cottered on 22 March and in nearby Wheathampstead a week later.
A man's arm and leg were found in separate locations in Hertfordshire over the past two weeks. Officers said the head had been "forensically linked" with the other body parts.
The press conference will be held at Leicestershire Police headquarters, in Enderby, later. The cause of death and the man's name have not been determined.
A post-mortem examination of the head at Leicester Royal Infirmary was unable to determine a cause of death or how long it had been in the field. Police said the man is a white or Asian adult between 5ft 6in and 5ft 10in tall.
The leg was found in a green hold-all in a lay-by near Cottered on Sunday 22 March and part of an arm was found on farmland in nearby Wheathampstead a week later.
Tests carried out on the leg established the man was between 5ft 6ins and 5ft 10ins tall (1.68m -1.78m) tall.
He is believed to have been white or Asian, but his DNA profile did not match any held on the National DNA Database.
