Car overturns on railway tracks
(about 9 hours later) | |
A motorist was injured when his car left the road and overturned on railway tracks at a station in the Vale of Glamorgan.
A sign outside Penarth station was knocked down during the incident, which involved a VW Golf car.
The 46-year-old driver is being treated in hospital, but the extent of his injuries is unknown.
Police said the incident happened near Stanwell Road bridge at 0910 BST, and the Golf was the only vehicle involved.
Stanwell Road was closed for two hours while the car was removed and police investigated. Normal service resumed around midday.
Arriva Trains Wales said the incident caused major disruption to services in the area this morning and buses had to be laid on for travellers.
She added that the car was later cleared from the track and trains were running as normal.
The VW Golf crashed into the station sign before overturning
South Wales Police said the crash victim was conscious when he was removed from the car.
Pc Louise Case said: "It would appear that this vehicle has been involved in a collision whereby it has left the road prior to the bridge.
"There was one male occupant of the vehicle who has injuries and who is being treated at hospital. We are looking for any witnesses to the collision to come forward with any evidence and they can contact me at Barry police station."
Pc Case said recovery specialists assessed the scene before recovering the vehicle.
