Suicide bomber strikes in Mosul

A suicide bomber has killed seven people and injured at least 15 others at a checkpoint in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

Police officers are reported to be among the dead.

Police officials say the bomber had aimed to attack a police station in the al-Bid area of the city.

United States and Iraqi military commanders say Mosul is the last remaining urban stronghold of al-Qaeda in Iraq.
