Version 0 of 1.

Top seed Martin Adams got the better of Co Stompe to set up a quarter-final meeting with former champion Ted Hankey at the Lakeside World Championship.

Adams was not at his best against his Dutch opponent but still held the upper hand to win 4-1 at Frimley Green.

Hankey, the 2000 champion, came from 2-0 down to beat English qualifier Davy Richardson 4-3.

Fourth seed Tony Eccles will face Mervyn King, the fifth seed, in the last eight after both recorded wins.

Eccles swept past 13th seed Shaun Greatbatch 4-0 while King, twice a runner-up, defeated Scotland's Mike Veitch 4-2.

But Veitch claimed afterwards he had been put off by King shouting words of encouragement to himself when returning from retrieving his darts out of the board.

"I'm not using it as an excuse, but sometimes when I was ready to throw Mervyn would walk past me and shout," said the Scot.

"That doesn't help. You just don't need it."

But King defended his conduct and claimed Veitch should have been "more professional".

"It wasn't gamesmanship. I'm an aggressive player as everyone knows. I was shouting on my way to the board but certainly not on the way back.

"If he can't cope with it that's not my problem. We are all professional players - maybe he should be a bit more professional."

Hankey had to battle all the way before getting past Richardson.

The world number eight levelled up the match at 2-2 before a 121 checkout from Richardson put him on course to move ahead again at 3-2.

But Hankey made it 3-3 and a 170 checkout at the start of the decider gave him the initiative.

"I just couldn't find my range in the early stages," admitted Hankey.

"I don't know whether I got my preparation wrong but I went up there with the same attitude as for my first match on Saturday and it just didn't work.

"At 2-0 down I wound myself up with a bit of shouting and screaming and managed to bring it out of myself. It's all about the mind. Once I settled down I was all right and it was a great match.

"I think the 170 checkout won me the match because if I hadn't hit it Davy was sitting pretty on a finish."
