Prayers are being said at Holy Trinity Church, Heworth, near where Ms Lawrence lived, and at York Minster, where her father is a member of the congregation. During the service, the congregation was told it was a time of "waiting and great anxiety".
The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, said last week he would respond to Peter Lawrence's request for prayers to be said. Miss Lawrence's father, Peter, is a volunteer steward at the minster.
Dr Sentamu has urged anyone with information about Ms Lawrence's disappearance to contact him at his Bishopthorpe Palace if they felt they could not speak to police. Prayers were said for him, his daughter, her mother Joan and her older sister Ali.
We hope that people will join us in praying with us, or being alongside us, as we look forward to her safe return Claudia Lawrence's family 'Great anxiety'
The Lawrence family issued a statement saying they believed they would be reunited with her. Leading the prayers during the Holy Communion service, the Reverend Canon Glyn Webster, chancellor of the minster, said: "We pray for the safety and well-being of Claudia Lawrence.
"It is now 11 days since Claudia, our daughter, went missing in York and we hope that, as today is Sunday, people will join us in praying with us, or being alongside us, as we look forward to her safe return. "As we pray for her, so we pray for her family, for Peter, for Joan, for Ali, her family and many friends, during this time of waiting and of great anxiety."
"We hope also that you will remember others who have loved ones missing at this time," it said. Speaking after the service, which was not attended by Miss Lawrence's family, Canon Webster said Mr Lawrence had helped at a church concert on Saturday night.
Posters of Miss Lawrence were displayed around York City's ground at their match against Kidderminster Harriers on Saturday afternoon. Miss Lawrence last spoke to her father and mother on Wednesday evening
Leaflets printed with her picture were also handed out to fans. The canon said: "It seems the whole city is pulling behind Peter, Joan and their family, in terms of concern, compassion and praying for them. While there's no news, there's still hope.
It was initially thought Miss Lawrence had disappeared after setting off on the three-mile walk from her home to work on the morning of 19 March. "We're hoping and praying for a good outcome for Claudia and her family.
However, police said that after failing to see her on any CCTV footage that morning, they believed it was possible she met up with someone the previous night. "The love and the prayers of the whole minster community go out to them."
She disappeared without taking money, bank cards or her passport. Prayers were also being said at Holy Trinity Church, in Heworth, York, where Miss Lawrence lives, and in Malton, Norton and Old Malton where her mother Joan attends church.
