Fears are growing for a Belfast doctor who has been missing since a St Patrick's night out in Cambridge.

Dr Gary McGowan is 37 and works as a cancer specialist in the city.

He was out with friends at two bars and then a club on 17 March, and was last seen walking towards the river area.

He was due to visit his family in Belfast at the weekend, but did not make the trip. He has not been in touch with family or friends.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Hutchinson said: "We are keeping an open mind about what has happened to him.

"There is nothing to suggest he has come to any harm, but his disappearance is so out of character that it is causing us, and those who know him, some concern."

Dr McGowan had been in the The Fountain and The Regal bars before going to the Fez club the night he went missing.

He was then seen walking along Kings Parade and Mill Lane.

"We are speaking to neighbours, colleagues and friends to piece together the events of that evening, and anything significant in the days after to help find Gary," DCI Hutchinson said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact DCI Hutchinson at Parkside Police Station on 0845 456 456 4 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
